MAKE THE NUMBERS USEFUL

Project cost-to-complete calculator

Use one reporting date and the same cost basis throughout. Split the remaining work into unpaid amounts already committed and estimates not yet committed. Each cost should appear in exactly one field.

How the calculation works

Forecast final cost = actual spending + unpaid commitments + estimated uncommitted remaining work. Cost still to pay = unpaid commitments + uncommitted remaining work. Budget headroom = current budget − forecast final cost.

Use the result with care

Include changes in the appropriate category once, rather than adding them again as a separate adjustment. An invoice already paid belongs in actual spending, not unpaid commitments. This is arithmetic on your records and estimates, not an audit, cash-flow schedule or guarantee of final cost.
