How the grouping works
The planner sorts finished pieces from longest to shortest, then places each into the first existing stock group with room. If none fits, it opens another group. This is a first-fit decreasing estimate. It finds a grouping under the entered model; it does not prove the fewest stock lengths possible.
The allowance is charged only between adjacent finished pieces. No cut allowance is added after the final piece. This is an explicit simplified model, not a cutting procedure. If your process needs additional end trimming or cuts, account for that separately before ordering.
Check the proposed groups
Every stock length is assumed equally usable along its full length. Grain, pattern, defects, joint requirements, end trimming and tool setup are not modelled. Check each group against the actual material and process before treating it as an order.
The raw-length lower bound is the sum of finished lengths divided by the stock length, rounded up. It ignores cut allowance and whether individual pieces fit together. It is a comparison figure, not a second cutting plan.
Your entries stay in this page
This tool calculates in your browser. Entries are not sent to a planning service or saved by the tool. Reset clears the lengths and restores a zero between-piece allowance.
